Acupuncture – all the Physiotherapists at St Georges Multi-therapy centre have gained additional qualifications in Acupuncture treatment.
Acupuncture can help with the following conditions:
Acupuncture is a holistic approach to the management of your health, pain and symptoms. It is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine founded over 3,000 years ago. More recently acupuncture has become a popular part of Western medicine.
As Physiotherapists, we use acupuncture with other natural treatment modalities such as exercise, manipulation and relaxation techniques, treatment is therefore not only about relief of symptoms but helping the cause of the symptoms and prevention of injuries.
Modern science has shown that acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce natural pain relieving chemicals, endorphins, these assist the body to heal itself and give pain relief. The traditional view is that Qi (energy) flows around the body in channels.
If the Qi is flowing freely the body is in a healthy state. If there is a problem, energy stagnates. The stimulation of appropriate acupuncture points frees this stagnation thus restoring normal balanced health.
Research has shown that most people gain relief from pain with acupuncture. It does not work for everybody and every condition but, frequently, good results are achieved when more conventional medicine has failed. The effects of acupuncture are cumulative, with pain relief building up as treatment progresses.
Acupuncture is safe when practised by professionals who are trained to use the strictest hygiene and are bound by professional and ethical codes. All our needles are sterile, pre-packed and disposable.
